Nothing motivates me more than an upcoming trip. It inspires me to work harder so that I can then relax and enjoy the trip to the fullest. The last couple weeks or so have felt long and tiresome, so I’m looking ahead to a few of the trips I’ve got planned for this year, and I gotta say, it’s helping.
I get so excited when I am preparing to for a trip or vacation. Honestly, often times I’m so excited that my stomach hurts. The planning process, preparing and packing are all so fun to me. I almost enjoy it more than the actual trip because of the anticipation. Yet still, nothing can beat the thrill of travel.
So far, I’ve got three trips planned for the remainder of this year. Each destination is one I’ve already been to a few time before, but I can’t stay away! So much beauty can be found in these places.
Utah and Arizona
In mid-May, my younger sister Lorianne and I will be flying out to the great Southwest to do some hiking, camping, and exploring. Currently our plan is to visit Zion National Park followed by the Grand Canyon National Park with a few quick stops in between.
Lori and I both love Zion National Park. In 2017 we attempted to hike Angels Landing, in a hail storm no less. But right before we reached the chains the storm took a turn for the worse so we had to turn back. So we are returning for a second chance!
We’d really like to hike the Grand Canyon from rim to rim. However, unfortunately we didn’t prove to be victorious in the back country permit lottery, so we are trying our hand at booking a couple beds at Phantom Ranch. Our fingers are crossed!
Our plan B for if the Grand Canyon doesn’t work out is to check out San Rafael Swell. Its a beautiful canyon that Lorianne’s professor told her about. Its surrounded by 3 State Parks and filled with slot canyons ripe for exploring. Gosh, there are so many amazing places in the Southwest, you can’t go wrong with whatever destination you choose.
Oh Michigan, I have so many fond memories of you. My mom is originally from this breathtaking state, so my family has been blessed to return back to Michigan several times over the years. This summer, Eric, my parents, and my brother, Roger, will be heading up north to visit my grandparents in Vanderbilt.
This little town, with a population of about 600, is in central northern Michigan. We plan to enjoy time with relatives, take long walks in the woods, and go on fun day trips to family farms, lakes, and other quaint towns. My heart just fills with the thought of returning to this beloved state.
Great Smokey Mountains National Park
Come September, Eric and I will be packing up our tent and sleeping bags to go camping up in Tennessee. My family has camped a few times in Cades Cove, a section of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, and it has always been a great experience. So, Eric and I decided to try it for ourselves.
We’ll only be gone for about 5 days, but it will be refreshing to get out of town for a bit and enjoy each other’s company amidst the beautiful scenery. Cades Cove offers a long, beautiful scenic road that visitors can either drive or bike on. The road takes explorers through the mountains to view a few old homesteads, churches, cemeteries, woods, and tons of wildlife.
Well, those are the trips we’ve got planned so far. They will be returning trips, but that doesn’t decrease the excitement or enjoyment. What is an upcoming trip you are preparing for?
