These homemade croutons are addicting, like stand at the oven and eat them off the pan addicting. The worst part is, they’re easy to make, and you can change it up depending on your preferences! One night I was craving a hearty mixed green salad, and no mixed green salad is complete without croutons. But I didn’t have any, so I improvised, and this was the product. Flavorful homemade croutons perfect for completing any salad (or eating off the pan). I hope you enjoy them!
- Half a loaf of bread
- 1/2 cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 tsp of Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp of Onion Powder
- 1 TB of Italian Seasoning (or simply Oregano)
- Pepper to Taste
- Salt to Taste
I only had half a loaf of bread at the time, but if you’d like to use an entire loaf, simply double the rest of the ingredients.
To begin, preheat your oven to 300 °F. Then, cut your bread into small chunks and spread on an un-greased pan (the olive oil will double as a nonstick spray). In a small dish mix the dry ingredients, then pour into a larger bowl with oil and mix. Then drizzle mixture over bread chunks on pan and coat. Make sure all of the bread pieces are coated in the seasoning. You can do this using tongs, a spoon, or your clean hands. After all the bread is coated, place pan in the oven for 7-10 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool and enjoy, or store in an air tight container.
Please keep in mind that this recipe can act as just a starting point. Feel free to adjust and experiment until you find the perfect seasoning portions for you and your family. Sometimes I choose not to add salt, sometimes I double the oregano, it just depends on how I’m feeling when I’m making them.
