Apple Crisp

What goes better with the holidays than warm apple crisp topped with a spiral of whipped cream?

As a child, my mom would always make this delicious apple crisp around Thanksgiving and Christmas. It brings to my mind such fond memories of the dinner table filled with extended family and friends, Christmas music playing, cool weather outside, the sweet scent of cinnamon.

When I got married I asked my mom to write out some of her recipes for me and this was one of my top requests. Seriously, this apple crisp with an oat and brown sugar crumble topping is mouth watering.

Over the last few years I’ve tweaked it a little bit, and by tweaked I mean increased the amount of crumble topping. Because that’s what we’re all here for anyways, right?!

I’ve also created a gluten-free and dairy-free version of this apple crisp that is JUST AS GOOD! For real! Last time I made it, no one could tell a difference! I’ll share that recipe soon, I promise!

Apple Crisp

Ingredients

Filling

  • 8-10 Granny Smith Apples
  • 3 Tbls. White Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

Crumble Topping

  • 1 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Old Fashion Oats
  • 3/4 cup Flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Cold Butter

Preheat oven to350°F. Peal and slice apples, toss apples with sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl and pour into 9×13 baking dish. Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Cut butter into small cubes and toss into dry mixture. Mash and mix until it resembles course crumbs; spread over apples to the edges of the baking dish. Bake in preheated oven for 40 min, or until golden brown and you can easily slide a fork through the apple slice. Serve with a dollop of whip cream and enjoy!
