This was Eric’s and my first Christmas together, and it was wonderful. We are blessed to have both of our families within 15 minutes of our home, which makes spending the holidays with family more than possible.

At first, I’m not going to lie, I was a little stressed trying to make sure we spent enough time with each family. Then, I was sad thinking about the traditions we would be missing with one side of our family while we were with the other.

But then my mom me reminded that while this change was hard, it was also good. It’s good for Eric and I to create our own Christmas traditions (and still take part in our family traditions). It’s a good thing to have both of our families here in town because it means that wherever we are we are surrounded by loved ones.

All day on Christmas all I could think about was how blessed we were to have our families. I tried hard to cherish each moment and take mental snapshots to recollect later.  Those moments of reading the Christmas story together or playing a game of cards around the dining room table and filling the home with laughter are what I’m going to remember from our first Christmas together.  I am so grateful to live so close to our family. We are so blessed to have them.
