One of the most beautiful gardens I’ve been too lies just outside of Orlando, Bok Tower. It’s actually a National Historic Landmark, and happens to be one of Eric’s and my favorite places for a picnic.
The day after Thanksgiving, we decided to #OptOutside and enjoy the lovely fresh air with family rather than get trampled for the Black Friday sales. My mom, sister, and brother joined us out at Bok Tower for a picnic followed by some wandering of the gardens and hot chocolate. This place is so beautiful. There are several trails to various parts of the gardens. Probably the most famous part of the garden is the actual Bok Tower, surrounded by lofty oaks and a calm pond with the some of the largest lily pads I’ve ever seen. This is where we chose to sit for a picnic. At the top of the tower is a carillon, an instrument that sounds similar to bells, and a couple times a day a musician will play for about a half an hour.
We sat in a large field, under the live oaks, just aside to the tower. While we ate our fresh salads and subs, soft Christmas carols rang on the carillon in the tower. Thank you, Lord, for soft and serene moments like these.
After our picnic we explored the gardens viewing the stunning Spanish style estate on the property, and blossom lined trails. The architecture of the home takes my breath away each time. I always feel like I am being transported to another place, and another time. The exquisite tiled fountains and lush greenery turn this place into an oasis. Here are a few more snapshots from our time there.
We ended the afternoon at their quant little gift shop offering crafted products by local artists and farmers, including a large selection of plants. And yes, we left with two new little succulents #plantlady. This was such a wonderful cap to lovely Thanksgiving. I’m so thankful for family and friends, and the time that God has given me to spend with them. If you decide to venture out to Bok Tower, I hope it is refreshing for your soul the way it is for me.
